26. ledna 1966, zrovna na Den Austrálie, se devítiletá Jane, sedmiletá Arnna a čtyřletý Grant Beaumontovi společně vydali na výlet na pláž Glenelg v australském Adelaide. Cestování sourozenců bez rodičů nebylo nic zvláštního a nebyl to jejich první výlet. Jane se totiž naučila jezdit autobusem, a tak doprovázela své sourozence jak jen mohla. Navíc pláž Glenelg byla pouze pět minut jízdy od jejich bydliště a děti se z každého výletu vždy v pořádku vrátily domů. Až do 26. ledna. Od té doby sourozence nikdo nikdy neviděl.
